Seasonally and globally, we are in a liminal time—an in-between time.

Often, this can feel a little uncomfortable, because there are many unknowns.

Yet, intuitive writing asks us to slow down enough to access our senses … until we can listen. Listen to what wants to be written through us—whether that’s a message for ourselves, for a loved one, or even for our business.

It’s a practice of entering—surrendering, even—to the liminal to become grounded. To receive practical guidance … through writing.

Earlier this week, in my free intuitive writing group, Write Your Fire, we had a group oracle reading; we asked for guidance around our intuition and creative self-expression. (I hold oracle like this every two weeks for the group.)

The message was very clear:

In these liminal, betwixt times, we must completely release whatever holds us back from expressing ourselves.

But how?

Often, we don’t know where to start.

How can we be authentic in our self-expression when we feel scared? We feel something sticking at the back of our throats, preventing us from sharing what is burning inside.

Maybe you’ve compared yourself to others or it’s been pointed out to you that you didn’t write the “right” way. 

The more sensitive you are (#hsp or #actuallyautistic), there’s more of a likelihood that at some point, you’ve felt criticized and misunderstood in your writing, so shut it down (or other forms of creative expression), thinking you’re not good enough. 

You can literally feel a block in your body, making it challenging to write and express yourself. It hurts. 

This can feel physically painful for creative, sensitive folx—because it’s your nature to create and express in your unique way. You see and experience … touch, and make love to the world in a different way. 

But because of this, there can be times that others don’t quite understand the intensity and the depth … the beauty … of your synesthesia. It can be hard to understand it yourself! 

This can cause a rupture in feeling tethered to this earth, to our world, to belonging. It can feel like your truth, your voice, your beliefs either don’t matter or are misunderstood. 

So, you swallow all of what is inside of you, down. Hard. Your creative expression, your truth, the very life of who you truly are, suppressed or numb. Eventually, it can seem like a challenge (frightening, even), to get back in touch with this.

And let’s be real, sometimes it’s not as intense as not feeling like you don’t belong … but instead, you’re not clear about who you are, now. 

We experience many life changes and can often lose track of what lights our fire, what brings us to life. We have lost track of ourselves. There’s a new definition on the horizon, and we just don’t know what it is, yet. 

I truly understand this because I’ve lived it … over and over. And it’s writing … specifically intuitive writing … which has saved me, literally. I also know the intimacy of being afraid to put my pen to paper because I did not want to face my truth. The pen tells the truth.

Since we are seasonally and socially in such an in-between time, it’s likely you’re feeling that personally, too.

If so, take heart. This is a season.

And whilst in it, perhaps put your feet on the bare ground, let it speak to you.

Hear the mountains sing and the rivers yawn.

Listen to the eagle lull you into dreams where you fly into the liminal space and listen.

Listen.

Listen in the quiet to what your heart is speaking about who you are now. About what you need. About what will ground your soul.

And … perhaps … just write a little truth, too.
